Winsock dll

I ran a search (looking in hidden areas too) and my
winsock.dll file was found only in the C:\Windows\System32
folder.

I can access most websites and ping commands work fine.
However certain web pages AND gif images on pages will not
display.

Whenever I go to download a file from the Net or an FTP
location....it times out.

So I am thinking of resetting the winsock.dll file. But I
was under the impression it should be in a different file
location.

Windows XP Pro
IE 6
128 bit encryption

Any ideas?

That's where it should be, but it should also be in
C:\Windows\System32\dllcache.
If you can access most sites I doubt if it's a Winsock problem.

In a Cmd window, enter
ipconfig /flushdns
then clear your TIF also, and re-boot.

If that doesn't fix it, eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
