Hello everyone,

I ran Norton antivirus recently and it saw a Trojan on
the winsock 2.2 exe file. I deleted the file, but now
everytime I open Windows, it sends out a message looking
for this file.

How can I download and restore this file? Is it really
necessary for someone who doesn't do any computer
networking?

Thanks.

Winsock is implemented as a DLL and I'm unaware of the need for a winsock
executable (exe). I'm a little hazy on this but I seem to remember a Remote
Access Trojan called Lamers Death that had a variation of the winsock.exe
name. What did your AV report the trojan as?

As far as Windows asking for the file when you start up . . . it is common
for a Trojan to be listed in any number of startup locations so that it
automatically runs on bootup. The reason you get the error message is
because now the command to start winsock22.exe cannot find the file . . .
you deleted it.

Take a look at this site for Start-up Locations:
