Winpatrol is no firewall. If your firewall did a bad job - it's WinPatrol's
turn. It monitors windows-autostarts, ie-helpers, windows services, cookies
and more. All those places where a trojans try to manipulate your system.

So you can use it as an addition to your firewall (running 2 firewalls is
nonsense).

I have been very satisfied with Sygate. It's just been discontinued; it
may be possible to still grab a copy someplace. It's not the absolute
best, but I think that it is very good.

I have ZoneAlarm but also have the inbuilt XP firewall running. I also use
WinPatrol, which gives a second line of defence.

I don't know any english source but on the german site
http://www.ntsvcfg.de/linkblock.html you can read a lot of stuff dealing
with the issue "personal firewalls".
Now I have my XP services properly set up, closed all useless ports and use
just the Xp-firewall. My winpatrol and all the trojan scanners are bored to
death.
