I'm getting reports from some of my addressees that my
emails show an attachment: winmail.da.

When they try to open the attachment they either can't or
if they use notepad, they get gibberish.

I'm not attaching any files that I know of. I use the
Outlook program from Office XPPRO with SP2 installed.

I tried a search in Microsoft's FAQs and Knowledge base
and came up with no hits.

If anyone can tell me 1. what this is? 2. Is it harmful
and 3. How to get rid of it--I'll be very grateful.

Please reply to the above internet email address as I will
never be able to find this place again.

Send in plain text or HTML. Not Rich Text.

Sorry, no e-mail replies. Ask in a group, read the answer in a group. Saves
everyone duplicated efforts. You might want to consider using a newsreader
like Outlook Express or Forte Agent rather than the web interface to the
newsgroups - it's a lot easier to do nearly everything there, including
searching, which is always a good idea to do before you post, as well as
tracking replies to your own messages and flagging threads to be 'watched'.
The Microsoft public news server is msnews.microsoft.com and you can
subscribe to as many groups as you like.

Note also: posting your valid e-mail address in a newsgroup post, or in your
newsreader account settings, is a surefire way to get spam and SWEN and
other viruses sent to you....see http://www.mailmsg.com/SPAM_munging.htm for
help in the future, but note that now that your address is out there,
there's not much you can do other than changing your address.
