upon startup (WIN XP home edition) the followign error
occurs: "The instruction @ "xxx" refered to memory
@ "xxx" The memory could not be read. CLick OK to
terminate click cancel to debug."

The system re-boots with either selection (OK or cancel)
XP sp2 installed but did not fix issue.

Have not seen anything related to winlog and unable to
read memory on KB.

If you don't answer OK or cancel, eventually the system
boots - the error message just doesn't go away. It was
recommended to get windows updates (incl. SP2) which I
did. Error message still comes up.

I noticed you didn't include spyware scans for those free
downloads to help with everything they promise but don't
tell you about startup programs and registry items that
fool with your pc. If you don't have reliable spyware
removal, you can spybot free at

http://www.net-integration.net/index.php?
page=spybotsd#clean

I suggest you run it and check for problems. Its going to
run for a while. When its finish scanning fix what is
checked off. Some of these registry items are in memory
so if it ask you to start at next boot reply yes.

It has an automatic backup so you can restore fixes.

You'll also need to remove startup registry items also ,
highjackthis is available free at:

http://www.net-integration.net/index.php?

You can provide a log to them and they will interpret
your log. Just follow their directions.

can look for 04 entries, those are startup
registry enties that are loaded up at boot time.
I would delete anything that wasn't store bought
program items. It has a backup. So you can
restore what you do.

Prior to SP2 i ran spybot, cleaned registry of those files
not removed by cleaning programs ( i don't remember waht
the other program was...).

This problem is specific to winlogon. Other areas have
also been shown to have similar "memory could not be read"
erros (see ms KB) but none related to winlogon...
