I had a computer built by a local computer company. I was
told the owner had a license to put windowsxp on my
computer. I paid him to do so. Now I receive a message
from microsoft that my password has expired. I have no
idea what my customer name or my password is. The
computer company has a disconnected number and they have
had cell phone numbers turned off. How do I find out if
they are legal or not. Should I turn names and numbers
over to microsoft? More important is my need to have an
operating system as I have work deadlines. Do I start
over? What is my next step?

Do you chop your legs off every time your socks start to smell because thats
easier than bending all the way down there to take them off?

Would you really?
How many times have you bought land on the continent of Atlantis?
Wouldn't it be wiser to find the cause before possibly wasting money?
Or are you buying it for the OP?
