WindowsXP does not recognize cd-rom drive after resume from Standby

Frustrating as heck: I leave my notebook for a while, it goes into Standby
(I guess) and later, when I get it out of the standby state, things appear
to be normal except that the system cannot see my CD-ROM drive (F:\). I have
to reboot to get back up-and-running.

This only began about 6-weeks ago (perhaps a conflicting driver or a wrong
setting?). I have posted a similar question before but had no takers.

Come on: one of you genies must have the answer.

If your computer is a Windows XP SP1-based system, and if your CD-ROM is connected
through an IEEE 1394 interface, try disconnecting the device before your system
enters standby. After the system resumes from standby, reconnect the device and make
sure that the system detects it before you try to use it. If that resolves the
problem contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the free fix (you will
not be charged if the specific update resolves your problem and you do not ask for
anything other than the fix). For more information see the following Microsoft
Knowledge Base article:

from Standby or Hibernation

And if your computer does not fit the given profile I suggest that you post in the
