I have backed up a dos program directory in windows98 and
need to transfer it windowsxp dos. I also have a cd I
made of the windows98 dos directory. I can locate the
windowsxp dos prompt but I can not figure out how to
either copy the cd there or restore the floppy disks. I
would also like to know how to back up in windowsxp. Any
help would be appreciated. Thanks

OK, first of all let's make sure I understand what you're doing. You
have a folder with a DOS program in it that you'd like to run in
Windows XP? DOS programs usually just ran from the executable, so try
copying the folder you made onto your XP's C:\ drive. Double-click on
the executable and see if it will run in XP. If it does, great - make a
shortcut to the executable and put it on your desktop or in your Start
menu. If it does not work, then you may need to try running the program
in Compatibility Mode since although XP can run many DOS programs
through its emulator, this operating system does not have true DOS as
did Win9x. If my understanding of your question is incorrect, then
please repost with more details so you can get more accurate help.

As far as backing up goes, it really depends on how you are defining
"backing up". I think it is best to back up one's data files onto a
second hard drive, either internal or external, and then burn a cd-r or
dvd every week or month or so and take that data off-site or put it
somewhere safe.

Again, if you want more help, repost with a better description of your
system and what you are trying to do.
