I have a dell computer I bought for my son with windows
xp student edition. I bought the xp professional. How can
I upgrade the dell to the new version of xp pro?? Do I
have to totally wipe my hard drive?? If so what is the
best way to do that and start all over?

"windows xp student edition"
There is Office XP for Students and Teachers and there is Windows XP
Home.
One is an operating system, the other is an office suite.
No part of either replaces any of the other.

If you are wanting to upgrade Windows XP Home, from the Desktop,
insert the Windows XP Pro CD and follow the prompts to upgrade to
Windows XP Pro.
