I got this Windows XP disk from a friend of mine. It worked real
good but now it won't boot up and work right. It keeps asking me
to connect to the phone or Internet to fix it. I try and it says I can't. I
can't get any straight talk from Microsoft. What can I do? I really
need this machine. It has all my homework on it. -Jan

Windows XP has something called WPA - Windows Product Activation. You must
use a valid CD key to activate the product within 30 days of installing to
continue using it.

Did your friend give you a CD key to go with the disk? Was it a valid CD
key ? If you don't know the answers to these two questions, it's possible
that you have an invalid installation of XP.

To fix you have a few options:
-Obtain a valid CD and CD key. Use the CD to perform a "repair
installation." Use the valid key when prompted for the code. Activate via
the internet or via the phone.
-Uninstall XP and install an operating system that has a valid license.
