Why does Windows XP automatically change all of my
documents from Word docs to Word Pad docs? When I go to
edit them or add to them, it is Word Pad, which does not
have all of the features of Word. Is this aspect of XP
changeable? If so, how?

Sincerely,
Chris Palacios (not an XP convert yet--many bugs with my
programs)

Run Microsoft Office Repair (from your Office Disc) and
allow it to restore your shortcuts.
This will correct your file association problem.

Because you don't have MS Word installed? Or if you do, because the .doc
extension is erroneously associated with Wordpad? Or if you have MS
Word you are strangely choosing "Save As Rich Text Format" or the wrong
file type? If you don't know these sorts of things, you certainly
aren't qualified to determine if XP has bugs or not. Keep your day job.

Word does not come as part of XP (or any other version of Windows), so
it sets up Wordpad as a fall back. You would need to get and install
Word - as part of Microsoft Office or with a recent version of Microsoft
Works, when the setup will change the association of .doc files
accordingly
