You have the Blaster Worm.

Do this.

CNTRL>ALT>DLT

Open Task Manager

Under Processes look for a file running with the name msblast.exe or
something like it

Highlight it and Click End Process

Now you should be able to stay online

Go to the Norton Site (www.symantec.com)

Download the Blaster Cleaning tool

Run it

Download your Updates Virus definitions

Restart your computer

You should be fine now

I am amazed at the amount of people that are still
inquiring about the virus....Could this be why we, as a
nation, were so ignorant of 9-11? What is terrorism
anyway? Ohmygosh, I can't communicate! If you were any
good at communication, you wouldn't have to ask what the
virus is all about, would you?
..

Only problem is, he'll probably get slammed with the worm again, before
he can accomplish what he needs to. This can happen even with dial-up.

And you neglected to advise he install the patch:

The page:
http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2354406C-C5B6-44AC-9532-3DE40F69C074
The download:
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...e-b7a52a983f01/WindowsXP-KB823980-x86-ENU.exe

And also enable Internet Connection Firewall: Control Panel > Network
Connections > (Open the connection) > Properties > Advanced > "Protect
my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this
computer from the Internet" > OK.

Or install ZoneAlarm:
http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/1001_cnet_zdnet/zaSetup_37_202.exe
