You are infected with the W32 Blaster Worm virus
Go to
Start> run> type 'shutdown -a' w/out the quotes. Hit okay. Then go Start>
Contol panel> network connections> select your internet connection and
right click it. Select properties. Click the advanced tab and tick the
'protect this...' box. Hit okay until the boxes disappear.
Now go to

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html
Download the fixblast.exe (link about half way down that page). Run it.
When your machine is clean, go to windowsupdate.com and download all the
recommended fixes.

Sheri

You have the Blaster worm.

To stop the shutdown process
Start - Run - type cmd
in the command line type shutdown -a

Go here and follow instructions:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/blaster.htm

You need to download and install all MS Critical Patches and Updates.

Then, to keep your computer safe, you need the following:

A good Anti-Virus scanner

A good firewall like Zone Alarm or the built in XP firewall
ZoneAlarm is available free at:
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

Ad-Aware 6.0 - for removing spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Spybot Search & Destroy - for removing spyware
http://www.safer-networking.org/

CWShredder - gets rid of page hijackers
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html

Google Toolbar - for blocking popups

http://toolbar.google.com/

Before running the Spybot and Ad-Aware, delete temporary internet files
and internet history.

You are infected with the Blaster worm.

This occurred because of the following:

1. You have no firewall installed.
2. You have not been to Windows update and have not installed the patches
that would have prevented this infection.
3. You do not have a properly configured and updated antivirus program
installed on your computer.

Because of your lax (non-existent) security practices, you are a threat
to the rest of the online community. Until you begin to take at least
rudimentary security measures, you will remain a threat, and should not be
allowed access to the internet until you become a "safe" netizen.

Your problem runs much deeper than the worm that has infected your
computer.

You probably have numerous other worms/trojans and viruses that you are
not even aware of.

Do all of us a favor...do a little research and take the responsibility
to secure your computer as we have, and then you can confidently rejoin the
wonderful world of the Internet.

I apologize if this seems a little harsh, but it is meant to be. Just as
in driving a vehicle, you need to be proactive as well as reactive, or you
become a threat to everyone else.

It isn't difficult to secure your machine...

Bobby
