Hello out there--my son was online recently and had a power outage while chatting on AIM. When the power came back on, it started normally until he got to Windows XP screen. XP Logo screen comes up (like it's starting normally), then it goes to a black screen, then flips to Emachines logo page, then went to a black screen with white letters that says "We're sorry for hte inconvenience, but Windows did not start. If you experienced a power outage, please re-start Windows normally (which we did). Then, it repeated the entire sequence again; every time we try to reboot, restart, or disconnect power & then restart; it just keeps going through this sequence and will not start up. I've never dealt with this before! Anybody have any solutions?? I will be most grateful!

Hi,

First thing to do is to check the file system integrity. Load the Recovery
Console and run "chkdsk /r C:" from the command prompt.

HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console in Windows XP [Q307654]
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307654

If this fails to correct the problem, you may need to bring it to a shop, as
there may be physical damage to the hard drive or other system component,
and it can be best tested by someone familiar with it.
