windows XP won't start up

I have tried to start windows XP Home but keep getting screen with start
windows normally or by last best known configuration. I have tried a Safe
Mode start up but it keeps coming back to this screen. I recently loaded
service pack 2 into the system and did a disk cleanup but after that it
would not start up. I recently followed the start up problem/solution in
Computer Active magazine with reference to start up flaws in service pack 2
but this did not help either. Any solutions apart from a reformat of the hard
drive?

If you can't access Windows with any of the options you have tried, a
'Repair' install of XP is on the cards. The following article by Michael
