I have a problem with my windows XP on a HP Pavilion
541c. windows will not load. If I unplug the power cord
and take out the CMOS battery, reinstall the battery and
plug the machine in windows xp will load after I get a
message about a bios error. I hit the delete key and
windows loads properly. I shut down windows and the
computer and is shuts down and powers off properly. The
next time I go to start the computer I get the HP screen,
the floppy drive makes a normal sound and then the
display goes black and I get a blinking cursor in the
upper left hand corner and nothing else happens. I hold
in the power button for a few seconds, the machine shuts
off. Pressing the power button again gets the same
results. I have to again unplug the computer and remove
the battery, wait, replace the battery and cord and we
start the same thing over again. Has anyone seen this
and can you please help.

Thank you in advance for your time,
Tom Wilson

Hi Tom,

Sounds like hardware failure, you should have the system professionally
checked. I'd suspect a hairline fracture someplace, or a faulty power
supply. Does the same thing happen if you skip the part about removing the
CMOS battery?

Rick,
If I don't remove the battery the system will not boot
after I have shut down windows. All I get it is the hp
blue screen for a second and then it freezes. I have
turned it off, turned it back on and pressed f1 to get
into the bios but the system freezes very quickly. Any
ideas?

Thanks,
Tom Wilson

.
Try a new battery instead of using the old one.

Hi Tom,

Same thing as John said: change the battery first. If it still does it, time
to bring it in.
