I have installed Windows XP with service pack 2 but I am
unable to install Epson Status Monitor.
I have downloaded the file as suggested by Epson and they
inform me tat it should work.
When trying to install setup for this I get a message
that to install this I need windows 95, NT3, or NT4.
Epson think that it is the service pack 2 that is
stopping the installation as is works ok with SP1.
Is there a way round this.

Don't use Beta Software Patches?

It's possible that the problem is due to something changed in SP2 but...

it's also possible that the Epson setup program is looking for a specific
version of a file and not finding it. Some setup programs check file
versions before installing and what version they find tells the setup
program how to install its package. If the author of the setup program did
not allow for unexpected versions (including newer versions), the setup
program can go no further and will not install.

I suspect that this is what has happened. The "out of place" failure
message is probably due to setup needing to display *some* message and it's
defaulting to the display of one that is irrelevant.

Since SP2 is in beta and not final release stage, Epson probably won't
rectify this until after the final SP2 file versions for are static and
known/published.
