Greetings everyone.

I've recently had cause to re-install Win-XP. Now, when I
go to Windows Update, I can get the Critical & XP updates
no problem. But the Driver-Update is grayed out, and I
get the following message:

"An error occurred while scanning for driver updates.
We are not able to display any updated drivers for your
system."

I've not made any hardware-changes since re-installing
XP. I tried re-installing it yet again, with the same
result. And I tried installing my old Millennium. Again,
with the same result. So I'm guessing it's a hardware-
problem which has come out of nowhere.

Since the error message gives me not the slightest idea,
which component might be buggered, I was hoping someone
out there could point me in the right direction.

Thanks for your time.

F.

I've read on a posting that this has been solved by removing hardware
that uses an unsigned driver (a card reader.
It seems Microsoft has changed there update scanner config.
Once before All of windows update was grayed out.
I read on microsoft knowledge base how to delete the scanner config in
the XP registery for a new download/install.
But now that article is no longer availible.

My problem is; I depended on windows update to load my onbord sound
card for my FIC AM37 motherboard.
So now when I use the FIC driver (VIA or Realtek AC'97 Enhanced Audio
Controller WDM) It installs as unsigned.
Replacing my motherboard isn't viable.

I was hoping someone
out there could point me in the right direction.

THANKS
