After applying latest updates to Windows XP Pro, my
system installs them, than goes into constant reboots. If
I go to safe mode and go to restore before the latest
updates no problem.

I have latest drivers for my system.

Have P4 2.5GHz in Asus P4PE BP motherboard. 512MB PC2700
memory. Radeon 7200 64MB video. SB Live 5.1 audio. US
Robotics 56K modem. Adaptec SCSI PCI card (controling CD-
R and Scanner) + 2 regular hard drives and a floppy drive.

Why can't I successfully use these new updates?

I have since installed all the updates one at a time. The culprit appears
to by Update # 811493. After it is installed it sends my system into a
constant reboot. The only way to make it stop is to restore to a point
before the update. All other updates appear to work fine. As long as 811493
is skipped or removed from the update list, everything appears to go fine.

If any finds a solution drop me a line. I think Microsoft would be well
advised to remove this particular update and/or fix it. From my searches of
this news group many people have a varity of problems with this particular
update.

Simon.

811493 is only of significance in a company LAN where they are concerned
that a disaffected employee might use the hole it plugs to give himself
admin rights and wreak havoc. On a stand-alone or family machine I
would leave it
