My home computer came with Windows XP already installed.
I have had it for over a year. Now, when I try to start
it, it reads: CANNOT FIND WIN.COM, UNABLE TO CONTINUE
LOADING WINDOWS
C:\>

If I type in START after the C:\> it reads THIS PROGRAM
CANNOT RUN IN DOS MODE

How can I fix this problem? I am computer challenged so I
need all the help I can get.

If by pre-installed, you mean you don't have an XP CD, the manufacturer was
required to give you some means of recovery. Check your system
documentation or contact the manufacturer's tech support for information
about how to run your computer's recovery procedure.

This is not an error message that should be produced by Windows XP.

The behavior you describe is more typical of one which would happen
with Windows 95 or 98.

Did someone try to install Windows 95 or 98 onto the computer and it
didn't complete? Or did someone use a Windows 95 or 98 boot disk to
start the computer and then used the SYS C: command?
