If you haven't done so already, you might want to post your
question to one of the Vista newsgroups. The General or
Installation and Setup groups would probably be your best
option.

As for your question, it would have been helpful if you had
included the exact error message you receive when you try to
enter the product key. Make sure you're entering the correct
key. What looks like a B on the sticker could be an 8. G and 6
are another combination that are often misread.
Also, what type of Vista DVD are you using? If you've purchased
an upgrade DVD from a retail store and are trying to run a
clean installation, you'll get an error message when you enter
the product key telling you that you need to start the
installation from within your previous operating system. Vista
upgrade DVDs aren't meant to perform clean installations. There
is a workaround outlined in this article.
