Peter, I know the arguments on both sides of posting messages like
this, identifying spam as spam. But I'm going to weigh in here with a
personal opinion.

I'm against this kind of message. Spam is usually recognizable to
everybody without it being pointed out. In this case, I got one spam
message and three anti-spam messages. That's four pieces of junk mail
for me to ignore instead of one.

Moreover, I can killfile the spammer, but unless I want to killfile
the anti-spammers, who are often folks like you who post valuable
messages, I will always get to see the anti-spam messages.

Hear, hear!

The number of responses to spam posts has increased
disproportionately of late. I'm finding that I'm deleting
responses up to a day or two after I deleted the original post. No
doubt the intentions of the respondees are good but in practice
it's a PITA.

So has the amount of NG spam.

Why delete them at all? They'll age out eventually, and in the meantime you
could mark them as ignored. The only reason I ever post a reply is to put in
the full headers, in case someone else wants to try reporting the jerks too
(and doesn't know how to look up that info). I also delete the contents of
the spam itself.

Maybe this annoys people too; I don't know, and I apologize if it does. I
just figure it can't actually hurt, and may actually help.

I'm about to switch on the the kind of newsreader settings that
don't display posts with "SPAM" in the subject headings, then I
won't be bothered. ;-)

Hi Ken

I understand perfectly well what you are saying. BUT when I see a Spam being crossposted to so many groups as this is then I usually do this for the reason that some groups depending on the participants in that group sometimes reply and open the actual spam . Sorry about the way I go about doing it this way but I do feel that these mails should not be opened by unsuspecting people. Spammers are aware of this and that is why they bombard many newsgroups at the same time with the same Spam

I will try next time to be more subtle .
Thanks Ken

That's one easy option... ;-)

Ken what I find worthwhile is to notify miscrosoft so they can be removed from the servers.
all the ms address I had previously now get returned.
its like MS does not want to cleanup the news groups.

I personally find the SPAM notification worthless.
it only makes people want to look to see what they missed.

Can't believe there are old farts out there who complain they get too many
messages...duh...

Don't suck up to the old fart...

(only needed the Canuck used quoted-printable format for his crap post)

Deliberately energizing spam to the Hotmail domain is a violation of
their TOS. You are not allowed to run a honeypot on their domain and
then solicit spambots to spew their crap there as this violates their
"caused to be sent" clause. You will be reported.

Killfile messages with the word SPAM in the subject line should do it
for you.

Regards
