Hey all,

I'm getting repeated Windows stop errors... generally 0x0000008E,
0x00000050, 0x0000000A, and 0x000000D1. This seems to indicate a memory
problem. Now the weird thing is that if I run memory diagnostics from my
universal boot CD (i.e. DOS), I get no errors using either MemTest86+ or
Windows Memory Diagnostics. However, if I run memory diagnostics from
within Windows, using http://hcidesign.com/memtest/ , I get errors. I'll
try running some other memory test programs from within Windows when I
get home, but if this is correct does anybody know what might cause this?

I'm thinking maybe the drivers for my motherboard (nVidia nForce3
chipset) might be the problem. I have the newest ones from nVidia, but
I've heard of possible problems with it.

System hardware is as follows if anyone can help:

Shuttle SN85G4v2
AMD 64 3000+ CPU
nVidia nForce3 chipset
1 512MB PC3200 400MHz DDR RAM (forget the maker, but can find out)
XFX nVidia GeForce FX 5200 AGP 8x w/ 256MB DDR RAM
200 GB Western Digital IDE HD
Trendnet TEW-423PI 54Mbps 802.11g PCI Wireless Adapter

The system was just put together, and the only drivers on there that are
suspicious to me are the nVidia ones (chipset and video), and the
wireless network card. Anyone got any ideas?

Try removeing the battery for the board or use the pin configuration to
re-set the CMOS,then on starting enter the BIOS,exit page,"load optimal
defaults" or "set-up default settings",then go thru to edit for any add-ons
you may have,exit BIOS.On restarting,have the latest BIOS update,install.
Then boot-up xp.

Have tried to check the Tempature of your CPU or Memory? Sometimes
overheating can do that too.

I'd already done all that actually. It turned out that the memory timing
was set to Auto, which was defaulting to T1. Switching to T2 seems to
have solved the problem. Thanks anyway.

I had very similar issues with both XP Pro (SP2) and Windows Small
Business Server using the unsigned driver for the TEW-423PI. I did not
note the exact error codes. But I had brutal unlogged hard restarts
using this card and the OEM drivers on 2 different PCs. I almost gave
up.

Trendware published a new driver a few days ago. I just downloaded it,
and I can't report how well it works yet.

Hope this helps...
