Windows XP startup

Am running Windows XP Home and my pc suddenly came up with the message "reboot with CD"..which I did but now I get a fatal error message:"Windows is unable to start because the registry could not be updated" Help!!
 
i would burn important files to a cd, and do a clean
install of xp.
