Windows XP startup problem... having to do with DHCP, I think.

Just today, my computer has started locking up at startup. A few seconds after I entered my user password in the login screen, the system stops responding and the mouse won't move. I was able to log in while running in safe mode and quickly checked Help and Support to maybe find a solution. I went through the steps and, using msconfig, discovered that the DHCP Client service that runs on startup is what hangs the computer. I disabled it and was able to start the computer in normal mode, but without the DHCP client running I can't connect to my home network or the internet

I guess my question is: How can I get DHCP working correctly again without it crashing XP

I'd appreciate any help

Same problem here!! Right after log on, my hard drive goes into a
continous run, and that's it. Never makes it to the main Windows screen.
The computer acts as though it will search forever, but is missing something
in the \Documents and Settings\UserId folder.

I can not access this folder to back anything up. I had made a backup copy
of my C drive, but I can not open \Documents and Settings\UserId on the
external hard drive.

I am really screwed. with all the protection given to \Documents and
Settings\UserId, it looks like Microsoft screwed us by not allowing us to
back this folder up. Oh, you can backup the folder to an external
harddrive, but when it comes to using it, it is locked. Ahh.
