I have a Compaq Presario 2500 laptop. It worked fine until the other day.
Now all I get is the error message - Windows could not start because the
following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFI\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting WINDOWS Setup using the
original Setup CD-ROM.

But the Windows XP came pre-installed on the laptop and I don't have a setup
CD.

What do I do now?

THank-you!!!!!!

If you have a friend with an Xp disk you can follow the instructions in this
FAQ I wrote http://www.tek-tips.com/faqs.cfm?fid=5362

I would not recommend downloading a "Hacked" version. Not only is it illegal
but they are often riddled with malware.

Did you buy the laptop new? If so you should be able to obtain a disk from
the manufacturer.
