when i start windows xp pro for the first time every day everything seems to go well then i get the loading message then everything goes blank (i get a blank screen) i then hit the restart button and everything starts up properly. Hence after this every time i restart it starts up normally until the next day when i get the blank screen again and i then have to restart again.

Is your system going into Stand By? (Check Control Panel (classic view) \
Power Options.)

Also, what happens when you hit the Power Button when your machine? If your
system really is in Stand By, this should bring your system out of Stand By
(unless your system has problems coming out of standby).

Thanks for your reply Delwin Le
After the splash screen everything just stops and the screen goes black. The only thing that i can do is hit the reset button then the computer starts up perfectly
The computer does not seem to be in standby
Every time that i restart the computer it works just fine but if i turn off and leave for about 5 minutes then start it all happens over again (after the splash screen all goes black ) i then restart and all is ok again
