I experienced the above on 3 PCs in my company. I was unable to go into safe
mode or repair Win XP PRO with CD. In the end I had to reinstall Win XP.

Please advise on what the cause could have been. So far other XP PCs do not
have the problem.

Thank you.

You installed xp SP2 and after the restart,xp would'nt start, safe mode was
unavailable as was booting to xp cd...SP2 or any software should'nt effect
booting to xp cd,how did you finally get into booting to cd..Either way,if
you
believe SP2 install was/is the problem, before you install it next time,go
to run
type:cmd In cmd type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree to restart,then type:EXIT Now
install SP2

Hi Andrew
thanks for reply. no it wasnt directly after installing sp2 that i had the
problem. i don't know either what could have caused it but i wld try what u
suggested. am curious to find out what caused the problem though. it seems
to have just happened out of the blue - 3 PCs within the same month?
