Windows XP SP1 update problem

Can anyone help me regarding a problem? Trying to update
Windows XP with the Windows XP SP1 upgrade download from
the Microsoft web site. I keep getting a message that
says "Windows XP SP1 is incompatible with this version of
windows" when i attemp to download the software.
 
Go to Start > Run and type: WINVER , and hit enter.
Look for the "Build" number. Does it show "Build 2600"?
