Hi,

My windows xp has been shutting down and rebooting on it's own and is
starting to do this quite often. It will work for a while and then reboots..
Any ideas about what this can be and how i can troubleshoot?

Hi

If you don't see any error messages, right click on My Computer, select
Properties and then the Advanced tab. Click on Settings under Startup and
Recovery and disable 'Automatically restart'. Next time your PC reboots,
you should see a Blue Screen. Could you please post the Stop Code from the
BSOD?

Also, please have a look in the Event Viewer to see if any entries there may
refer to the problem.

thanks you i will try this tonight.

I'm having similar problems - it's very infuriating! Especially when you're
careful when it comes to downloading! All i've downloaded in the last few
days are proffessionally produced videos. I've got loads of error codes:
7000, 7009, 10005, 1002, 1003, 10010 and 7034 come up with crosses.

Trying to run windows defender and avg, but it usualy decides to shut itself
down before they get far... It then goes through a period of starting, and
cutting out. It's luck the power supply's dodgy, but as other things aren't
affected, it's not that.

Does anyone have any ideas what's causing this and how to get around it? At
the moment this is the furthes I've got before it decides to close itself.

Thanks in advance

Iain

Good morning, Iain.
Where are you seeing those codes? in XP Event viewer, or ? if in event viewer, is there a mention of the program at issue?
Have you turned off auto-restart on error, as per Will's note {below} ?

In your case, does the pc shutdown as in "power off"? or do you mean "restarts" Windows?

Have you done a recent antivirus & anti-malware check?
