Help what? They won't help you sleep better at night, nor will they help
your children score better on school tests, but I'd regard them as essential
for securing a computer and improving its reliability.

Sure, they help fix something that is wrong with XP. Being a very
complex thing there are lots of things wrong with XP, but must of us don't
see the problems very often. From time to time MS makes available Service
Packs to fix some of the ones that are causing problems.

If you don't have one of those problems, it will not help you, if you do
or will, it will help you. Since many are security issues, they help most
everyone.

On the down side, such a complex system as and computer OS is subject to
fixing one problem and creating another. So some times a service pack may
cause a new problem.

Hi Patric,

Service packs are "fixes" for the operating system. Think of them like a
"recall" for a car you bought with a defective part. When it was built, they
didn't know it was a problem. The problem showed up after it was sold and
now they are correcting it. By all means, download and install all service
packs and critical updates.

LOL, JAX
