Windows XP service packs and updates

I have Windows XP professional and there are service
packs, security and other updates MS has identified that
my PC requires for update. However I have a dial up modem
and end up always getting disconnected. These updates are
real large and I cannot successfully download them. What
options do I have?

See if a friend can download the files on a cd or disc
for you.
