Does anyone know if it's worth "slipstreaming" SP2 behind
the XP installation CD if one has the SP2 CD? IOW, is
"slipstreaming" not much more than applying the SP2 CD
after running the installation CD?

It's really up to you. On a clean install, if you use a slipstreamed XP
cd you just save yourself the time of applying SP2 after the install.
For those of us doing this sort of thing for a living, saving time is A
Good Thing. It's a personal preference for an end user, though.

Where the slipstreamed cd really comes in handy is if you need to do a
repair install. Then, if you only have (for ex.) an XP SP1 installation
disk, you'll get an error that you're trying to install an older
version of the operating system.

It's handy for repair installs. For clean installs, not much difference.
It would be nice if one could trade one's SP1 for an XP with SP2
instead of having to learn how to slipstream without slipping up.
