windows xp search

every time i got to search all files and folders windows installer pops on
and off like its trying to install something any ideas out there of what this
could be.

i had this happen to me when an installation strangely became corrupt, in my
case the offending application (visio) could be seen trying to install, are
you able to see what application is causing the install to appear?

i uninstalled the application and removed all instances in the registry (it
is possible to use a registry cleaner after standard uninstallation
procedures) to stop this happening, reinstallation is to your discretion,
although i never reinstalled visio as i no longer needed it...
 
so, you select search, installation begins to occur, instantly disappears
(with no interaction from you) and you're able to search as normal?

try disabling the search character by opening search, changing preferences
(bottom link), and selecting 'without an animated character'
 
i select search then all files and folders the it begins to install i did wot
you said and as soon as i selected all files and folders it began to install
again im still able to search as normal as it disapears
 
Hello. I had this very same problem after installing
Nero 7, later found out it was Nero's update manager
causing the problem. I uninstalled the update manager
from add and remove programs and that took care
of the problem.
