Windows XP reninstall on Dell leaves dual Windows options at bootup

Due to severe problems originating from a browser hijacking and virus
infection, I had to do a complete new Windows install (removed partitions
and reformatted) of Windows XP Home. All seemed to complete fine but when
booting up instead of going directly into Windows, I get a black screen with
white text asking to select which operating system to load and both are
identical "Windows XP Home..." installs. Counts down from 30 seconds
waiting for a choice.

How can I get rid of the second one and have Windows boot without stopping
at that screen and prompting for a choice?

Mark;
Start/Run
Type "msconfig" ENTER
Click Boot.ini tab.
Click "Check all boot paths"

Thanks for your reply. This appears to be a workaround the cause rather than
a correction of the cause. Just curious why the extra booth path appears in
the first place. What should/could I have done differently during install to
avoid this? What issues may it cause during future upgrades/use?

The whole point of doing the comlpete reformat/reinstall was to have a
correct/clean Windows XP install and it appears that I do not.

Mark;
The cause would have been something went wrong during the Clean
Installation...specifically unknown.
To be sure, you could search for some of the old files and profiles
and see if any are located.
If you locate them you most likely pressed something wrong at some
point.
