Help! I'm getting a shutdown message " Windows must now
restart because the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service
terminated unexpectantly."

I've just set up a two computer network with Linksys
10/100 fast router and cables. Suddenly I'm getting this
message and the system shuts down. I must have a (some)
settings wrong. This is my first time setting up a small
home network.

Sounds like you may have the Blaster virus. Check it out here:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.html
and here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp
Ensure you are always running antivirus software with up to date virus
definitions. Also, keep your OS patched with the critical updates from
windows updtate site.
