You can undo the last System Restore from the System Restore program.
Try doing that.

Hi Malke,

thank you but i have morequestions. XP did not ask me if i wanted to do a
destroctive or other recovery. The disk space is dramaticall y lower. I think
it might have actually deleted files. How do i undo the last recovery. DO i
have to go into recovery mode again? F10?

It sounds like what you did was to run the manufacturer's "System
Recovery" which basically wiped out the hard drive and installed a
fresh new copy of Windows XP exactly as it was when it left the
factory.

If that is what happened then the problem requires "hands on"
attention from a data recovery specialist who might repeat might be
able to recover the missing files or at least some substantial
portions of them. But it will be expensive.

Malke, it would be wise for you to immediately stop booting into the
affected drive. (Windows swap-disk activity alone can wipe out your
data.) Instead, hook it up to another computer as a second drive then
use data recovery software to mine out the lost files. (You may not
need a data recovery expert becuase their is no physical drive damage.)
Here are some freeware data recovery tools to get you started:
