ok, long story short, hard drive died yadda yadda. Got new ones but now need
to set up my system.

I have a dell 9100 dimension desktop and I have the recovery disk. I have
replaced the hard drives in a RAID 0 set up, but have realised that of course
I need to set up the RAID 0 again to get everything to work. As well as this
I know there are other things I should be doing but not sure

Has anyone got the time to give me a step by step method of sorting all this
out? It would be most appreciated. By the way, I know that after all done
I'll need to install drivers etc so you dont need to go that far...just the
hard drive set up and anything in between please

many thanks in advance

What makes you think you have to set up raid 0?
I'd be surprised if your sys was supplied by Dell in this config.

If you visit Dell support and enter your Tag # you should get info/help
specific to your system.

yep, I kid you not, it was set up raid 0 - hence the reason I lost all my
data lol. Anyway, I've done as you say and they suggest using the dell pc
restore untility, but when I press ctrl F11, nothing happens

Of course not, you need to go into the BIOS and set it to boot from the
CD/DVD ROM first. Then put the Dell recovery CD into the CD/DVD ROM and
exit the BIOS. I am assuming Dell gave you a CD. If your "recovery
utility" is a hidden partition, call Dell and get guidance from them.

yeah thats true...but have booted from the cd, gone to recovery mode and used
the recovery option but this still hasnt sorted my problem

do I need to use the reinstall xp option and then repartion the drive or
something...jeez, I didnt realise i was such a newbie hehe

If it's a new hard drive, there's nothing to recover so, of course, you
will have to use the reinstall option.

ok, got everything working but certainly isnt raid 0. seems I just have 2 x
hard drive working on their on...will this be detrimental to anything?

You have two different physical hard drives installed in the case? What
do you see when you open My Computer?

No, you don't have to set it up as RAID 0. It's an option, but
certainly not required. In fact, it's usually a mistake. The boost in
performance it produces is normally very small, but the risk of data
loss is greatly increased.

so...just to bottom this having two seperate hard drive wont be detrimental
to the system...just use one then the other yeah

Not in the slightest. Depending on how you sue it, it might even improve
performance/
just use one then the other yeah

No, you shouldn't use one until it's full, then switch the second. You
should plan what to put on each and organize what you do accordingly.
