After I uninstalled a couple of hotfixes and a service pack 1 on my computer
and saying 'yes' to the 'restart your computer now' prompt, my computer tries
to restart but doesn't go past the Windows XP professional screen with the
little loading bar. THe screen flickers when it is supposed to go to my
desktop screen and then restarts itself and does it all over again. I have
tried to start it in safe mode, etc but it does the same thing. HELP!!

Do a repair install. It won't ruin most of your settings, but you will
need to do Windows Update again.

If I do a repair install, do I lose everything that was on my harddrive,
i.e., microsoft word documents?

No. Everything will appear about the same as before. Just Windows will
have been reinstalled.
