Windows XP prof. and HP 145 printer problems

The first problem of failure to print happened when I had
Win 98 SE on my IBM ThinkPad T20. I worked on that for a
couple of months and ended up doing a clean install of
Win XP Prof. The problem persisted after breaking
support time records with HP and replacing the printer.
The printer works fine, most of the time. Then, for an
unknown reason, I get a "failure to print" message. I
have uninstalled and reinstalled the most recent driver
for the HP 145 for XP.
I have consistently upgraded XP Prof. as recommended
by Microsoft. Then I started having crashes with the
error that there was a problem with S3gnb.dll, an S3
Graphics Driver problem (Savage IX8) I found the driver
(vers 7.90.50) and installed it. The problem persists
and I am at wits end. Any recommendations ? Jack T.

When you uninstall, do you include Step 4 as per:

http://www.coribright.com/windows/Article one.htm

Omitting it simply let's XP reinstall the older and possibly corrupted
drivers.
