i recently bought a computer from a small-time geek who is
of course now on vacation while i'm having problems. i've
got XP..the problem is that i've had terrible internet
connections and now i see that internet explorer isn't
installed. what do i do?
Actually, it's not possible to install WinXP _without_ also
installing Internet Explorer; nor is it technically possible to remove
Internet Explorer from WinXP. So you do have IE installed, although
it may not be working correctly. Try the following:

You might also try providing some specifics about your "terrible
internet connections." If you're not using IE to connect to the
Internet, what other browser are you using? (I should also note that
"terrible internet connections" are the often rule, rather than the
exception, if you're using AOL, as your email address suggests.)
