I just installed Windows XP Pro and when I finished installing, I restarted
my computer. I got the Windows startup screen but after that my screen went
blank. What is the cause and what can I do to fix it?

Try starting in Safe Mode. If you are successful, update the video drivers
or set them to basic VGA if you don't have updated drivers available.
Since you have access to the internet get the drivers from the video
manufacturer web site.
Access Safe Mode
#12 on the FAQ list.

Please tell if you find the solution, because I have had the same problem
recently, only I have had windows XP pro installed for a little while now,
and this problem just started recently. I have to restart my computer about
4 times usually before it works. What I usually see is the startup splash
screen, then the screen goes blank, but I hear the log in noises. I have all
updates and as far as I know my drivers are up to date. I have a tv card
currently not being used and my video card is ATI Radeon 9200 series. Also I
go to windows update regularely, and am not fond of reinstalling windows or
reformatting.
