I have been running Windows XP Pro for about 2 months and everything has ran
great. Yesterday, I statred receiving the following error message "NT
Authority System Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service Terminated
Unexpectedly" and the computer reboots after ~40 seconds. This appears to
only happen whenever I am on a dial up connection. I have not installed any
hardware or software. The event viewer states the following "The COM+ Event
System detected a bad return code during its internal processing HRESULT was
800706BA from line 44 of
d:\nt\com\com1x\src\events\tierl\eventssystemobj.cpp. Please contact
Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error."

Does anyone know what is causing this? Could it be the modem is going bad?
Whenever I run the diagnostics on the modem it appears fine and it connects
as normal? I am using an onboard PCTEL ARM modeum (audio riser modem).

Thanks for any help you can give me on this strange problem.

Don,
Your first few lines point to the likelyhood this pc has been compromised by the "Blaster" worm.
Do the following steps, as perscribed by Kelly [MS-MVP]

Instructions for use:

Close Windows Explorer, run the edit on line 257 then run the patch listed
below it: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
