Question;

I recently reloaded Windows XP PRO on my desktop machine. Unfortunately
when WinXP recognized a piece of hardware, I skipped the driver load. Now
Windows will not present the device for driver load. I have tried looking
for the registry setting to correct the issue, but am unable to find it.
Does someone where I would find the registry key to allow windows to again
present the device for driver load.

Is it a secret what the device is? What does device manager show for that
device? Is it listed with a yellow ?

Just go to Control Panel, open the Add New Hardware option then it
will ask for the location of the drivers or software. Really simple
to fix, that if you know what the device is and you have the CD.

Rock;

Thank you, the device is a visioneer scanner. It did not appear under
imaging devices. I did notice a USB Root hub that was not properly loaded, I
did get that device driver loaded, then the scanner showed up under imaging
devices. Stupid thing still will not read from the manufacturer's
installation disk to install the driver. I hate to reinstall the entire
program, but looks like the only way to correct the issue.

Some devices need the driver installed first before the device is connected.
I'm not familiar with Visioneer Scanners and the suggested installation
routine for them.

Thanks All;

Unfortunately the only problem with these suggestions, is the fact that
since a response was given to not ask for the drivers again, drivers have not
been asked for again. I did notice that a USB hub device was not loaded.
Once the USB hub device driver was loaded, then the scanner device presented
itself again. For some foolish reason, Visioneer doesn't simply place the
driver in a folder as an *.INF file. In the driver file, I found an
executable file. When I ran the executable the driver was then updated
(Really Strange), due to the fact of the normalcy of finding an INF type file
for a driver, I was not looking for an exe.

Marcus,

You can use the "update driver" function of the device manager to
'reinstall' the scanner's driver/s...
