Windows XP Performance Issues

Hi,

Can anybody help? I have recently obtained a brand new HP nc6120 laptop in
work and the performance is terrible. Example: when I right click any file
to view properties / rename / delete nothing happens for at least a minute.
I've checked my CPU usage, and whilst this does spike on some occassions its
not being stressed (certainly not when opening a 10kb txt file!).

I have loads of memory/RAM etc and have defragmented my disk and wiped all
the stuff I don't need off the machine. Still have the same problems.

Within work I'm connected to a LAN with files + actual profile stored on
network drives - I have seen a few comments in the past about network drives
causing performance issues but my old laptop didn't have these problems.

I know this is very generic but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

RK.

Hi Carey,

Thanks for the note.

Checked my settings and this option was already "unticked".

Any other ideas?

I was just thinking how wonderful life was, when RK
I know this is very generic but any help would be appreciated.

Couple of things from the deep recesses of my memory. Possible
searching for network drives and a second IDE channel with nothing
connected could be causing the delay.

Hope this helps and I'm not talking rot.
