My little brother installed my xp on the d drive, but I
have very limited space on the d drive. How can I move it
to the c drive. I no longer have the software for it, but
I have run out of space on my d drive. Any suggestions?

Use the following procedure for a "clean install" of Windows XP:

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

NOTE: If you have an internal Zip Drive installed, physically disconnect the
EIDE and power cable to it before proceeding, otherwise your main
hard drive may not be assigned the customary C: drive letter.
After installing Windows XP, you may then reconnect it.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete all the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. ==> Immediately after installing Windows XP, turn on XP's Firewall.

7. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".

8. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

9. If you happen to run into any installation difficulties, use the following resources:

Unfortunately, there is no way to move a Windows installation from one drive
to another. At least, no way that works correctly. Here are your choices:

1. Perform a clean install of Windows to your C: drive. (This means removing
the installation on your D: drive and starting again from scratch.) You'll
need a legal Windows XP CD to do this. An upgrade version of XP is fine so
long as you own a CD from a previous version of Windows. This is the easiest
thing to do, and most likely to work.

2. Perform a second installation of Windows to your C: drive and then remove
the installation on your D: drive. This will work just fine, but you need to
know how to safely get rid of the installation on the D: drive. And you need
a legal Windows XP CD.

3. Use third party software -- Partition Magic is your best bet -- to switch
the C: and D: drives and then increase the size of your Windows partition.
This is a procedure for an advanced user.

Create more space on the D drive. Try System Restore on the More Options
section of Disk CleanUp. See if you
can move other things to another partition.

To move programmes you need to uninstall and reinstall through Start,
Settings, Control Panel, Add / Remove Programs. To move Temporary Internet
Files -Start, Control Panel, General tab, Temporary Internet Files,
Settings, Move Folder. To relocate Outlook Express store select Tools,
Options, Maintenance, Store Folder, Change.

If your My Documents folder is in your C partition then create a My Files
folder in another partition and copy ( not move ) the contents of My
Documents to your new folder. Then delete the files in your My Documents
folder ( if you encounter problems deleting use Shift + Delete to bypass the
Recycle Bin ).

Where is your pagefile.sys located?

System Restore occupies a lot of space. Is it set to the maximum of 12%?
Right click on My Computer, select Properties, System Restore, D drive and
settings. Reduce to 8% will win something.

Hope this helps.
