Windows XP Not Starting; Computer Keeps Rebooting Itself

I just got a new comoputer about 12 hours ago. I did some Windows updates, and installed some software. One of the programs, Avid Express DV, kept giving me an exception error. Looking that error up, I found that a certain Windows Update file could cause problems with Avid, and it was recommended to have it removed via Add/Remove Programs. I did that, and was told to restart. The computer got to the black Windows XP Home screen, and then restarted itself repeatedly. The computer came with XP, so I have no disk, and I was not expecting to need to make a system recovery disk within 5 hours of purchasing a brand new computer. Is there ANY way to get back into Windows? I have tried Safe Mode, as well as Last Working Settings (or whatever that is called), the same thing happened both times. I also tried going in the BIOS settings and nothing could get fixed there. ANy assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Jitensha,

At worst, you will need to use whatever recovery method the system
manufacturer provided. Usually this is a recovery partition, instructions
for accessing and invoking it should be in the user manual.

For now, try the 6 floppy disk set created from the file available at the
links below. You can use them to boot a limited version of the Recovery
Console where you can run "chkdsk C: /r" from the command prompt, which may
help you recover the system.

Thank you. The manufacturer didn't supply me with a recovery method. They suggested making a recovery disc, but honestly, I didn't think it would break withint 5 hours of buying it. Thanks for the advice, I hope it will work.

Oh, I tried out what you said, but I don't have a Windows XP Cd at ALL, so that doesnt really work for me.

Unfortunately, you need to have some means of recovery. Even a preinstalled
system manufacturer is required to provide some method of resetting the
system to factory state. Usually, this is accomplished by the use of a
recovery partition. Using the boot floppies, you should not need any disk to
run the chkdsk command.
