windows xp not running properly

Trying to repair windows xp from cd-rom disk, need help on how to specifically turn off any antivirus program&bios-level antivirus protection. and help getting cd-rom drive to be the first priority startup device in my computer's bios settings. and when the press any key to boot fron cd prompt appears, press any key so that my computer starts from the windows xp cd-rom. got this from microsoft knowledge base article 32205 how to trouble shoot hardware and software drivers problems in windows xp. i messed up my windows xp and hopping i can repair from the cd in article it says that my current windows xp installation is listed and then your prompted to select an option, press R to start the automatic repair process. will this find and fix any problems with windows xp

First lets try a Last good known configuration. Reboot your computer. When the first writting comes up on the screen start tapping the F8 key. When the screen comes up select Last good known configuration and hit enter. You will come to another screen with your windows operating system high lighted and hit enter again. Your computer should reboot. See if that fixes your problems. If it does not this is how to get the repair going. Reboot the same as above but instead of the F8 key you will have to tap another key. This is what you will have to figure out. Which key is it. On some computers it is the F10 key some it is the delete key and mine is the F11 key. You can do this by trial and error. When you find the right one the bios screen will appear. Go to the boot tab, arrow down to boot device and hit enter. Select cd-rom and hit enter. Hit F10 to save and exit. Exit saving changes. Place your cd in the cd drive. When you finish repairing you can do go back to the bios screen and change back from cd to removable devices or hard drive to boot or you can leave as is.
