Windows xp no longer completely shuts down-I have to click the power button to complete the shut dow

I use to be able to completely shut down the computer-meaning no video
signal I could walk away from computer and not worry about whether the
monitor was left on.I believe after some xp updates.I manually need to
press the power button at the It is safe to shut down windows now.This
was the old days way of shutting down windows.Is there an option
somewhere I can adjust htis to go back to the old ways.Thank
you.Windows XP media center software.
