I have an IP recogition problem on a LAN, I wonder if someone could
help , I don't know where to start looking.
I have a machine with NT2000 and a portable running XP home. I also
have a Netgear router, both machines are connected and assigned fixed
IPs by the router (192.168.0.2 for NT2000 machine, 192.168.0.4 for the
other).
I have never been been able to connect the 2 across a standard network
(I thought you plugged these things in and they worked !), but I have
got used to transferring files via HTTP downloads. This workend fine
until a few days ago.
The other day, when I was feeling particularly stupid, I deleted the
Bridge in the Connections panel on 192.68.0.4.
Since then I can only ping one way: 192.68.0.4 can see 192.68.0.2.
In the other direction, I just get time out requests. I have other
similar problems, the Port forwarding facility to 192.68.0.4 is not
working.
So its seems that as a result of my demolition work, 192.68.0.4 is no
longer "published" by the machine. Yet it does get the IP correctly
from the router and can access the TCP/IP network.
How is this? Any suggestions as to what I can do to solve it?
Thanks for any help, and if possible also mail to (e-mail address removed)
